Q&A - Anette and Susanne Bastviken

Who?
Anette & Susanne Bastviken – @radicalbroccoli
What?
Sisters who run a platform showing what’s good within environmentalism – events, clothing, self-care, people & plant-based food++.
Where?
Oslo, Norway
You are what you eat, what are you?
Anette: green smoothie & chocolate
Susanne: coconut chocolate & organic broccoli
What would never end up on your plate?
Animals (sounds brutal but it’s true)
Do you have green fingers?
Anette: I tell my plants that they rock every time I water them. They look pretty darn good!
Susanne: Currently raising a easy-to-handle plant, but getting there.
What do you do to make your day green?
Anette: I eat plant-based, use sustainable materials and bike around Oslo. I also try to refuse, reuse, reduce and recycle, and always carry a tote bag with me. On occasions I do plogging too, which is jogging and picking up trash. Very glamorous!
Susanne: Eat green, bike, shop used clothing. And try to spread the green vibe on Instagram.
Whats your fits-to-all-occasions-garment?
Anette: Second-hand boots.
Susanne: Anything black.
If you only had 8 different garments, what would your wardrobe look like?
Anette: I love jackets and blazers, so 4 of those in different styles (all vintage or second-hand) , 2 really good jeans, 1 dress and 1 chunky knit.
Susanne: In Norway: Black jeans, loose pants, levis 501, wool top, warm sweater, jeans jacket, second-hand black jacket, vintage t-shirt and lots of hoops and earrings. In my tropical paradise: 4 bikinis, 1 wetsuit, 2 tops and 2 pairs of shorts.
What colours do you belive in for next season?
Anette: No clue! I usually buy clothes that I love and don’t know so much what’s in fashion or not. Usually I like earth colours.
Susanne: Ocean blue forever!
Forest and hiking, or sea and swimming?
Anette: I crave both. Looking at the ocean makes me calm.
Susanne: 40/60
Gallery or cinema?
Anette: Cinema – something uplifting and never a scary movie. I’m never able to watch a movie at home and always find something to do, so going to the cinema is a good way to relax!
Susanne: I love the artsy vibe at galleries, and I love the cinema even more! Especially ones who stand out like Electric Cinema in London and Gimle in Oslo.
Winter, Spring, Summer or Autumn?
Anette: Autumn! It’s so pretty and I usually still have a lot of summer energy.
Susanne: Definitely a summer person, but realized this year how insanely beautiful autumn can be.
How do you beat time?
Anette: I turn my phone in flight mode and put on music.
Susanne: Walk around a new place and take photos.
How do you get people smiling?
Anette: I make really bad jokes and laugh at them my self, usually very loud.
Susanne: I tell them about my most embarrassing moments. It can go on for a while.
What is happiness for you?
Anette: Enjoying life, letting my guard down and being pleasantly surprised by what life brings when you are open to it. Connecting with inspiring people and creating things that can inspire others. Doing something good for the world.
Susanne: I often feel like my life is too good to be true after I started doing more of all things I really like.
A or B-human?
Anette: A!
Susanne: Neither, just like to sleep.
What drives you?
Anette: Having a purpose I believe in, curiosity of life and ambitions. Also food.
Susanne: The hope of being able to make a difference.
Whats your life motto?
Anette: Anything is possible. Turns out to be true, again and again and again!
Susanne: Gotta quote my idol Frank Ocean on this: “The idea of recognising your strengths and using them in as versatile a way as you can is cool to me.”
Who/what inspires you?
Anette: Nature, photography, nice music, Paris, Copenhagen, wild jungle life, surfing, meditation, weird people, vintage Dior, gold chunky earrings, the smell of coconut and plants.
Susanne: People who are exploring all sides of themselves, who aren’t afraid to share, who create new things in the world (art, photography, technology, design, anything!). Vintage stores, galleries, foreign food, passion.
Do you have a local hero you would like to give a shout out to?
Anette: Yes, so many! I admire all of those to really want to make the world a better place and find cool and inspiring ways to do so. I belive that if more people dared to follow their passion we would have fewer conflicts and more creations in this world. I also really admire Gunhild Stordalen.
Susanne: Everyone tagging us on Instagram with their zero-waste grocery shopping, plogging, plant-based food and eco-stuff.
Finally – who do you want to pass this q&a to?
The cool Candid That sisters!
